Curved Laminated Glass

Just as it is the case with flat sheets of glass, curved or formed glass can also be given safety attributes by sandwiching an intermediate layer of plastic between two panes.

There are two common processes for this: With the so-called "film lamination", the plastic layer consists of a sheet or several sheets of film, while cast resin lamination employs a liquid resin. In either case, should the glass break, the majority of glass splinters "adhere" to the plastic layer so that, for example, a vehicle windshield does not fall out, or a burglar has difficulty accessing a building.

Curved laminated glass can be manufactured in compliance with all accepted, European-wide classification standards (EN 356, onwards). And, since most common glass types can be processed into laminated glass, it follows that this is also possible for numerous formed glass types. The wide variety of available "interlayers" results in application possibilities that are not only interesting but also functional, in other words, in a wide range of products into which the plastic layer can be integrated, thus offering functionalities that go beyond more safety.
