Curved tempered / heat-strengthened Glass

For both flat as well as curved glass panes, one safety feature can be achieved by subjecting the heated glass to rapid cooling or "quenching", to obtain tempered glass.

In fact, this process offers two safety features : on the one hand, the mechanical stability of the glass pane is significantly increased, thus permitting selective, point-specific unions to provide an enormous increase in shock and scratch resistance as well as resistance to vibrations. On the other, "tempering" the pane results in a large number of very small splinters should the glass break. Due to their size and weight, these splinters are hardly likely to result in serious injuries. A further differentiation into either the classic tempered safety glass (TSG) and the less strongly "air quenched" partially tempered glass (PTG), also known as "heat strengthened glas" (HSG) , is also made.
